Out of School Care

Our Mandarin Bilingual OSC program focuses on exploring children’s ideas and interests, encouraging ethical decision making, community, and creating positive friendships.

The program is for children ages 5 to 12 years who attend Meadowlark Elementary school from Kindergarten through Grade 6. We are open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, providing care before and after school. Children are walked to and from school daily and can relax in our spacious after-school program which includes one common room and a large hall to accommodate interest-based social activities and indoor physical activities.

The approach we follow with school-age children is to adopt a ‘living curriculum’. It is not a static set of unit outlines with rigidly- defined outcomes, but a flexible framework that assumes that learning is a natural process occurring through self-directed experience, optimized by a supportive environment as well as positive interaction with adults.

We offer 30-40 mins of homework tutoring (optional) and a variety of activities for children to choose from, including makerspace, cultural projects, outdoor play, art and crafts, leadership & community group projects, etc. Activities are planned on a weekly basis, based on the interests of the children and their input, which ensure opportunities for them to socialize with one another, as well as to have a quiet space to read, craft, or build. Outdoor and physical play is also an integral part of the program. Daily outdoor time is a chance for fresh air and exercise. On early dismissal days, children are assigned in groups to do research on their monthly themes of science projects, indoor and outdoor games, art and crafts projects. The staff provides the children with activities that support cooperative social interactions, and are developmentally age-appropriate. All of our educators are passionate and truly enjoy connecting with your child every day!
